Below is a download of something called the "Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy." In the 1970's and 80's a group of church leaders, denominational leaders, and theologians came together to address the concern of the waning authority of the Bible. In a day and age where many are using Biblical teaching to serve their own personal agenda, it seemed important to unify as "The Church" in order to take a stand on a long-held belief about the Bible.  Many today are still devaluing the authority of the Bible.

Those who met for the purpose worked together to draft and sign a statement explaining their view of the Scriptures. There are more exhaustive works out there, but this one is a good picture of what is meant by the idea of the bible being infallible and without error. Furthermore, this explanation is helpful for understanding why such a high view is taken of what Christians describe as "The Holy Scriptures." It is also helpful to understand this view of God's Word in relation to being responsible hearers.
