Water Week Part 4 - Filters not wells?

by Jason Bollinger on March 26th, 2015

For the past several days we've been drawing attention to the need for clean water in the developing world. The bottom line is that clean water is the basis for survival and human flourishing. Without it, sickness, disease and death is amplified. Our solution in many contexts is to provide water filter systems to households, schools, churches, businesses, and other key places. However, there are other water solutions, and in many places that is a water well.

In recent years, many different organization have been doing amazing work drilling water wells. Living Water International in Houston is an amazing organization who strengthens communities by drilling wells and providing sanitation education. Our friends at Water for All International are equipping families to dig shallow wells to have access to fresh water. Whenever we talk to people about water it seems that everyone knows someone who is doing something with water wells in the developing world. It's great! Everyone is working toward the common goal of getting good water to people who need it.

At Links, we have chosen to focus more on the filter kit systems more than wells. We don't think one is better than the other. In fact, we think both are great. In some cases, we partner with local organizations to have wells repaired or dug in order for a community to have clean water. Wells can provide clean water for the masses, whereas our filters will serve a smaller number of people.

However, the filter systems are fast and easy to install.   They can begin serving up clean water from dirty water in less than an hour from the time we take the filter out of the box.  In areas where there are no plans for a well, or plans for a well are far off, our filters provide immediate relief.

In some cases, water the wells provide quality water that is safe to drink. However, in other places the water coming from the well is still in need of filtration to be drinking quality. When this happens, our filters are a wonderful compliment to wells that have been drilled.

The beauty of working together on mission is that nobody can be everywhere, and there are many different solutions for many different contexts. We continue to partner with well organizations and celebrate the work they are doing. It is amazing to see how they organize all the machinery and expertise necessary to drill in developing situations. It is beautiful to see how many people around the world are receiving access to good water from wells.

We believe that wells are an amazing investment, but we also believe the water filter systems are as well. At $75, they are an affordable, immediate solution to help families eliminate waterborne disease from their life. All the partners we serve are blessed by the water filter systems, and they are an important piece of the community transformation puzzle.

We would appreciate it if you would consider donating $75 (or even 1/3 of a filter at $25) to help us make a difference in the lives of those who need and deserve clean water. Clicking on the icon below will take you to our Water Filter Kit giving page.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Also, please feel free to spread the word to your co-workers, church leadership, bible studies, friends, or family. Every little bit makes a huge difference, and together we can increase the reach of Good News to the poor.
