Water Week Part 2 (Nicaragua)

by Jason Bollinger on March 23rd, 2015

In February I had the privilege of visiting with some wonderful folks that we will be partnering with in the near future. One of those organizations is called The Hope Project. Hope is working in some incredibly poor areas. Their entry point for community development has been child nutrition and education. That work has grown to also include some business development and support of families. They are doing a great job, and we're excited about the possibilities of working together.

One morning we toured a community where they felt led to establish a new feeding program. We drove around looking for a location where they could feed the kids. The biggest challenge was that the location that was the best had no running water. If they would use this location, they would have to truck the water in a couple times a week. In the end, they decided this location was best, and that's what they're doing.

As I listened to the pastors, neighbors, and missionaries talk together, my heart broke. This community has access to a well which provides a relatively clean source of water. However, there is a fee for the well water, and in this area the price is too much for people who live on about $1 a day to afford. The alternative for them is to collect water from a stream that runs behind the village. I watched as people returned from that stream with water for their homes. That stream was contaminated. Waste water flows from that stream.

Water contamination is one of the reasons that the children are getting sick, and this is one of the areas that we would like to take some water filter systems.

Your donation of $75 will buy one filter system for this area. Please also be praying for the 3M community in Nicaragua and for the Hope Project as they get established here. Great things happening in communities like this one hinge on clean water. We can make this a reality for many people.

For the Kingdom,
