A Big Race (Becky's Story)

by Jason Bollinger on March 11th, 2015

Dear Links Family,

A little over three years ago, we received the type of call that every minister dreads. One of our families was in a horrific car accident. In this case, our former neighbors and dear friends had been terribly injured when they were rear-ended by a semi truck.

We met James and Becky in San Marcos where they had been youth pastors and church planters before eventually make their way to our church. They have huge hearts for mission, and they have each traveled around the world serving the least of these. Becky is a runner, and she discovered that the best reason to run was for the Kingdom of God. One of her first Kingdom runs was a half-marathon that helped raise money for our adoption. Since then, she has served many others with her passion for running.

Though there were other serious injuries, Becky suffered the most including a broken clavicle, broken ribs, and a broken neck. Her broken neck required not only surgery, but for her to wear a halo for an extended period of time. We were praying for her recovery, but we didn’t know if she would be able to run like she had before.

Becky’s surgery was successful, and only weeks after being in a nearly fatal car wreck and having surgery on a broken neck she kept a commitment to one of the races she had signed up for. She had to walk, and she was rockin’ a halo, but she finished the race.

Since then, Becky has continued to heal, continued to get stronger, and run races for the Kingdom. The London Marathon gives a limited number of runner entries to charities to assist them in raising money, and this year one of those entries has been given to Becky. In April, Becky’s going to be running for the Kingdom in one of the biggest races in the world.

We would like to ask a couple of things from our Links Family. (1) Would you pray for her? This will be her first full marathon, and she is currently training hard for the race. Would you pray for her strength and conditioning as well as her health and well-being? Pray also for husband James who has been training alongside of her to encourage her as she trains. (2) Would you support her financially? The race entry comes with the requirement to raise funds for charity. She is running to raise money for Links, and it would be a great opportunity for you to invest into missions and support her at the same time.

We have set-up a “London Marathon” giving page, and that is where you can go to make a donation for Becky’s race.

We are going to be there to cheer her on at the finish line, and by donating on her behalf, you can be there as well!

Thanks for staying up to date with Links! We are grateful for you. Please let us know if we can pray for you or if you have any questions about anything we have going on.

For the Kingdom,

Jason Bollinger
